Mets fans are not happy with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for trying to “take” the name “Tom Terrific” from long-time Mets pitcher Tom Seaver  Brady recently applied for trademark status for the name “Tom Terrific,” but Mets fans are furious that the six-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback is treading on The Amazin Mets’ moniker territory  Pitcher Tom Seaver earned the nickname way back in 1969 after he debuted with the Mets in 1967 Seaver played from ’67 to 1986 and spent 12 seasons with the team, including that 1969 championship season in which he helped earn the team the nickname of “The Amazin Mets ”  If granted, Brady could use the name for merchandising including posters, trading cards, apparel, and other products  To make matters worse for Mets fans, Seaver recently retired from public life after being diagnosed with ongoing dementia at age 74  Seaver never did try to trademark “Tom Terrific,” but as far as Mets fans are concerned that hardly matters at all  Follow Warner Todd Huston on Twitter @warnerthuston.
