While writing your book is one thing, gettingit to your potential readers is another challenging journey as an author.

Especially with amazon kdp, where readers 'search' for the next book that they wantto read, it's all about showing up in the search results.

In this video, we will see some key strategies that are straight-forward and easy to do todaywithin your kdp account.

it's all about working out the accurate categoriesand keywords.

that's right – the 2 categories and 7 keywords will help us take our bookclose to our readers.

categories are all about BISAC (Book Industry Standards and Communications)codes.

these are the key words or phrases that best suit your book – these are usedin libraries to sort the books under different shelves so the readers can find them quickly.

This boils down to organizing books.

you can choose upto two bisac codes for your book.

so, when you setup your ebook in your kdpaccount, ensure you choose the closest possible category you can.

look at it like the differentsections in a bookstore.

in which shelf do you want to see you bookif it was a physical book? then choose a corresponding category.

remember you can only choose twocategories, so choose wisely.

if you are writing fiction, then expand thefiction category options, and pick the one that closely matches for your book.

i personally suggest picking something thatis not very broad here – try to get nicher so your audience can find you.

that's becauseif a reader is searching for Native American Poetry, for example, within literature & fiction, but you have only selected the Poetry category, then there are a lot of chances that yourreader may not even find you.

Forget even being shown up under the 'Similarbooks in this category' or 'Customers also viewed this item' section.

So, that's how nicher you could go while selectingcategories; just go as deeper as you can go.

This part could always be experimented, evaluated, and changed even after publishing your book on Amazon.

Do these same steps for your second categoryas well.

An insider tip here: Research the first pagesection of SERPs of ebooks that are similar as yours, under three to five categories.

So if you are writing a book on productivity, goto a similar ebook that talks on productivity, check its categories and the first 5 ebooks that show up in their pages.

This way, wecan make a note of any unique categories your competitors rank in, and apply them to yourbook.

To convince Amazon that your book should be placed in a specific category, place thewords of the category onto the title, subtitle or even the summary of your book page as appropriate,of course, without sounding spammy.

Now with keywords: always remember – keywordsneed not necessarily stop with just a single word in each of those fields.

You can alsovery well type key PHRASES there if needed.

here's a quick tip: you could choose any wordsor phrases from this help page on Amazon KDP, if you want to find a way to sneak into aparticular category.

this may provide better chances of settling into a specific categorythat you want to be placed under.

Just so you know, you could also try contactingamazon to request them to place your book under a specific category or remove from aparticular category if you feel it deem fit or otherwise – DO NOT ASK to be placed underany irrelevant random category though.

These are just tiny details in the overallsetup, but places a vital role in ensuring your readers find your book in the amazon'sSERP.

It's all about exposure in the amazon search pages for an organic growth of salesof your book.
